On the 29th September the IOF presents the follow up concert to its smash success debut.

‘Abandoning Silence’ Marks the first of many concerts in tandem with the Human Culture Collective and promises to be an evening that underlines the unique creative and social mission of the orchestra.

Musically the concert has something for everyone: the evening begins with a world premiere – Julene Siddique’s atmospheric ‘Prayer for Peace’. Following that will be Gulda’s Cello Concerto. Undeservedly neglected in the UK, this piece – hugely popular all over Europe, America and the Far East, is a quite absorbing fusion of orchestra, jazz trio and cello solo – performed by the legendary Thomas Carroll. The centrepiece of the evening is an iconic classic: Tchaikovsky’s sixth symphony, one of the most heart-rending and moving compositions in the classical repertoire.

from Mark Messenger, Head of Strings at the Royal College of Music

The universality of music has been a powerful political tool for centuries. More than this, great art reinforces our humanity, that humanity which is so easily forgotten and abused. The International Orchestra for Freedom is a venture which unifies us all with common cause and shared values.

Best of luck
Mark

Welcome!

With less than a month to go until our debut concert, it is with growing excitement that I am writing this first entry.

Having started this project last November, I can now look back on these last few months as having been some of the most trying yet amazing ones! I cannot wait to see the culmination of this work on the big night.
